Rome

After leaving Florence we knew we had fallen in love with Italy. Seeing the Art, both historical and contemporary, was transforming. Learning about the diverse cultures within the country made us only want more. We were ready to tackle the complexity of Rome and the layer-upon-layer of this amazing city.

First we stopped for a spectacular lunch and wine tasting in the stunning region of Umbria. We were welcomed by a local couple who presented a most delicious lunch spread of  many local dishes along with tastes of local wines and olive oils.

We arrived in Rome later in the day and checked in to our beautiful hotel just a short walk from the famous Spanish steps. First on our agenda was an evening walk exploring many of the major sites in the lively lamp lit hours of Rome.

Everywhere is history intermingled with modern day amenities. Some of the most important and visited sites in the world are in a short walk from each other. Once again, our guides were highly educated and experienced. By this time our tour group had meshed to a fun, bantering, festive mix of people.

The next three days were full of well organized tours and small group adventures on our own. Just walking the streets of Rome was a learning experience but adding that with our new group of friends made it that more enjoyable. We feel like we just scratched the surface of Italy and are looking forward to future trips. It's a vibrant country offering the world so much. Arrivederci Italy, you haven't seen the last of us!
